The federal debt has reached unprecedented levels and is growing more each day. We simply cannot continue to spend money we don’t have. Sending the bill, plus interest, to future generations is not just bad economics; it is also immoral. Congress must work to change our path of out-of-control spending and return to fiscal responsibility. To do that, we must carefully decide whether or not to continue each federally-funded program, and all options to reduce spending must be on the table. I support taking steps toward this goal by increasing transparency and disclosure in the appropriations process, passing statutory total-spending caps that will help reform the way Washington spends taxpayer money, and ensuring that our nation controls future spending through a Balanced Budget Amendment to our Constitution.
