Statement on Keeping Guantanamo Bay Prisoners Out of the U.S.
~Try them in military tribunals, not civilian federal court~
Washington,
Nov 17, 2009 -
“The Obama Administration’s primary goal should be to keep terrorists off of U.S. soil, not house them near our homes or give them additional constitutional rights in a court of law.
“Survey after survey shows the majority of the American public agrees with keeping Guantanamo Bay open.
“Holding civilian federal trials in New York City for 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other 9/11 conspirators, and considering moving terrorists to Illinois are more bad policy choices by the Obama Administration that leaves us with more questions than answers.
“These terrorists are the worst of the worst and should be tried at Guantanamo Bay by a military tribunal. We should not be extending more rights to them or transferring these prisoners to our own country because of a poorly thought out campaign promise. The President should be working to diminish the capacity for them to hurt the United States again, or receive more rights than they deserve.”
